# 2040  Pittsford: 2009 Preview

Pittsford ended their league season fifth in Monroe County Division I with a 2-8 record (8-8 overall). Seeded ninth in the Class A tournament the Panthers defeated eight seeded Gates Chili in the first round, however lost to Canandaigua in the quarterfinals. This was the second straight year that Pittsford has defeated a higher seed in the first round of Sectionals.

Irondequoit avenged their first season meeting with Penfield and in a close one, ended the Patriots undefeated season. In other close games HFL beat Eastridge 9-7, Canandaigua remains the only undefeated Section Five team with a 9-7 win over Penn Yan, McQuaid Jesuit over Corning West (16-14) and Schroeder played a close one winning 8-6 over Fairpor

Section Five teams won four games and lost two to out of Section games today. Winning were McQuaid Jesuit (10-9 OT) over St. Francis, Penfield (15-6) over Binghamton, Geneva (12-4) over Marcellus, and Pittsford (7-3 unconfirmed) over Frontier.

In other contests Ath/Ody was the winner over Batavia, Thomas over Brighton, Gates over Brockport, Hilton over Eastridge and Schroeder over Pittsford. Schroeder had a big win today as they defeated Fairport 12-4. Penfield remained undefeated with an 11-7 win over Irondequoit. In other match ups it was Brockport over Arc/Oly, Thomas over CC, Gates over Ath/Ody, CA over Midlakes and Geneva over Mynderse. Pittsford had a 12-8 win over R-H, Penn Yan beat Pal-Mac, Victor was (10-7) over Waterloo and McQuaid Jesuit was a winner over BH. HFL beat Eastridge 5-4 and Aquinas beat Haverling 14-6.

# 1927  Fourteen Games on Tuesday

Nearly everyone was playing on Tuesday as fourteen games were played by Section Five teams. Batavia won their first ever Varsity games (15-10 over the Lightning), Brockport beat C-C (9-5) and Canandaigua beat Penn Yan in a close 5-4 game. McQuaid Jesuit, and Aquinas were GRALL winners and Pittsford, Gates Chili, Fairport, Penfield, R-H and Geneva had easy wins. Newark beat Pal-Mac 11-8, Mynderse took BH (11-9) and Waterloo was the 9-8 winner over Midlakes.

It will be an all Webster semi final in the upper bracket of the Class A tournament as Thomas (#5) beat Fairport (#4) in double overtime. Schroeder beat last years's Champion, Penfield 13-4. All the other top seeded teams won, including Irondequoit, Canandaigua, Penn Yan Midlakes, Livonia, Waterloo and in Class B, Victor.

There were a number of close games with only one regular season day left before the Section Five Tournament begins. Penfield beat R-H in overtime, as did Newark in their game over Midlakes. McQuaid Jesuit won the GRALL championship and Irondequoit had a big win against Fairport.

Fairport defeated the last of the undefeated teams this afternoon when the beat visiting Irondequoit, 8-7 in overtime. Rush-Henrietta had a 10-9 win over Penfield, Pittsford played a great game against Schroeder but lost 7-9. The Thunder won in the 2nd OT. A total of 13 games were scheduled on Thursday.

Fairport played another overtime game today, winning this time in two over time periods against Penfield, 9-8. Two games featured Head Coach brother against brother. Craig Whipple beat his brother Andrew as Irondequoit was the 8-4 winner over Pittsford and Tom MacMillan beat brother Mark as HFL was the 10-5 winner over Brighton.
